Sacro Monte di Orta (Orta Holy Mount)
Follow the Motta road up from Orta main square. Having passed the Santa Maria Assunta parish church, turn right until you reach the cemetery. Turn left and walk along until you reach Holy Mount entrance archway, topped by a 17th century statue of S. Francesco. The historic-religious route starts at this point and develops along the climb to the Mount, where the twenty chapels can be visited,until reaching the church of S. Nicola di Mira which is the last stop on the itinerary..
Sacro Monte di Domodossola (Domodossola Holy Mount)
Start from the tree-lined square in front of the Madonna della Neve church. Proceed along a paved path in the wood until you reach the sanctuary outer fence where you will come across chapels XII, XIII, XIV, the Vision of the Cross chapel and the Institute of Charity. The remains of the ancient Mattarella castle destroyed by the Swiss in the 15th century can be seen from here.
Sacro Monte della SS. Trinità di Ghiffa
Go up to the sanctuary, which boasts an excellent view, from the town of Ronco. The route continues on through a chestnut, maple and ash wood until you reach the top of the hill.
