An alternative itinerary to the above in the upper reaches of the Tanaro Valley. Leave the car in the parking lot at the junction signposted to Carnino inferioreMap. Carnino superiore can be reached by following the asphalt road. Follow the road past an old mill and take the path to Chiusetta. After going through two wide valleys, follow the signs to "Pian Ciuchea" as far as la Gola della Chiusetta. Continuing along the path and taking two tight bends, walkers reach Pian della Chiusetta. The excursion offers an excellent panorama of Carnino Valley.

Drive from Chiusa Pesio to Pian delle Gorre. Leaving the car, go up along the old military road. Passing the signposted road for Garelli mountain hut on the left, continue up to Giais degli Arpi. Take a path to the right that leads to the bottom of a limestone wall and the Pis waterfall, one of the few waterfalls to have eroded into the rock horizontally. Such horizontal erosion is typical of the karst phenomenon found in the Marguareis group of mountains and the consequent large number of underground watercourses. Water flows through French mountain cavities and along underground rivers before surfacing in the Pesio Valley. Take the path to Gias Funtèna in the Vallone del Pesio on the way back as far as Piano delle Gorre.
