Cuneo - Piemonte Feel

Provincia di Cuneo

Cuneo Province, nicknamed the Granda, is the one that is perhaps most bound to its traditions, which are strongly marked by agriculture, viniculture, and gastronomy. Its extensive area presents us with an extremely varied geographic and cultural landscape. There are valleys, hot springs and nature reserves as well as one the most interesting artistic and cultural heritages in Piedmont. Two areas are very characteristic of Cuneo Province – the Langhe (a langa is a particular kind of hill in Piedmont dialect) and Roero (named after the family of local nobles that long ruled over it). This is sparkling countryside with its hills marked by old villages, castles, medieval churches, and historical residences. Above all, there are the vineyards that yield quality wines that are appreciated and sought, even abroad. They are considered a precious resource on the international level. The Langhe-born writers Cesare Pavese, Beppe Fenoglio, and Nuto Revelli have told the story of these areas and their own roots in some of the most beautiful pages of our twentieth-century literature. Cuneo Province is famous for its many valleys. There is the Valle Vermenagna with Limone Piemonte, an important ski centre. There are the Valle del Pesio and the Valle Gesso, which is famous for its Argentera Natural Park and for the Valdieri Hot Springs. There is the Val Varaita or Valle smeraldina, the “emerald valley” where elements of the Occitan tradition still thrive. Finally, there are the small cities. Alba, Mondovì, Saluzzo, Fossano, and Bra are places where the heritage of an important past is still lively. Thanks to their care for their fine foods, a visitor can transform a little trip to Piedmont into an unforgettable cultural and enjoyable experience, something to savour slowly.

Places

La “Bollente” di Acqui Terme

This is an elegant, octagonal temple-structure inaugurated in 1879. This eclectic structure has a spring where sulfuric-salty-bromine-iodic water flows at a temperature of 74.5 degrees Celsius.

Filatoio Rosso di Caraglio

The Filatoio (Spinning Mill), built between 1676 and 1678, is an extraordinary example of 17th century Piemonte “industrial architecture”. Today, completely restored, it houses the Museo Regionale della Seta (Regional Silk Museum), as well as contemporary art shows.

Castello di Mazzč

In the ancient underground parts of the medieval castle is the Museo della Tortura (Museum of Torture): tools and methods from the Holy Inquisition. The building is surrounded by a large park with a scenic view looking out over the Canavese.

Africa Unite

Africa Unite

"Africa United is not deeply Torinese. Bunna and I are from the province of Piemonte and we’re critical toward the so-called ‘Savoy pride’, but it’s a fact that we have experienced Torino’s turmoil."

Manhattan Transfer

"Torino has a unique allure: aristocratic, elegant. We enjoyed the museums, the parks and the people are warm and passionate. And also the cafés and fantastic restaurants where you eat in the Piemonte style: truffles, Barolo, Arneis were, for us, an absolutely unforgettable delicacy."

Luciana Littizzetto

"I like living in Toino. It has a singular beat. The accent is an important source of inspiration: it’s slow, deliberate, not suited for funny moments, but if it’s natural and not affected, it works and makes you laugh."
