Cities

Bagnolo Piemonte (CN)

Paragliding, trekking, mountain biking, ski stations in Rucas, this is Bagnolo, the ideal spot for those who love outdoor sports. Besides all of this, woods almost completely cover the hills and the mountainous area around the city, a detail which adds interest and variety to the trails that wind among the hills, but which above all explains why in the world the mushroom is the main ingredient in local cuisine. We are dealing, obviously, with the porcini mushroom, the only mushroom the locals consider worthy of appearing on their table, even if it is not the only edible variety in the area. They are called “bule d’ Bagnol”, the mushrooms of Bagnolo, in Piedmont’s dialect. The town originally rose up from the hills between Valle Pellice and Valle Po, where the stone castle of the Malingri family can still be seen. In the 15th century, the town moved to the plain, where it now sits, building itself around the Romanesque-Gothic bell tower of the Parish Church of San Pietro in Vincoli, the only intact structure which was already present at the time of the town’s reestablishment. Around Bagnolo, many quarries today continue the activity, already noted in the 16th century, of extracting a particular construction stone known as “pietra di Luserna” (“Luserna stone”).
