Govone (CN)

The Govone Castle is among the Savoy residencies included in the list of UNESCO’s artistic and cultural world heritage sites. The castle’s present architectural structure, as Giuseppe Roberto Solaro wanted, goes back to the 18th century. The southern façade is attributed to the architect Guarino Guarini, while the northern façade is attributed to Benedetto Alfieri. Towards the end of the 18th century, the residency went to the Savoy family and became the preferred summer home of the King of Sardinia, Carlo Felice di Savoia and his wife, Maria Cristina di Savoia. Even the park that surrounds the Savoy residency creates an impressive visual effect, where the blues of hyacinths and periwinkles dominate during the spring season, as do the red of the tulips, to which the event “Tulips at Court” (“Tulipani a corte”) is dedicated. This town at the border between Roero and Monferrato, is also famous for the production of prized wines, among them Barbera, Nebbiolo, Arneis, and Bonarda.
