Alpignano (TO)

“Alpinianum” was born during the Augustian era, along the road to Gaul, which crossed the valley of the Dora Riparia and connected Italy to Narbonese Gaul via the “Alpis Matrona” (Monginevra). Its Roman origin is documented by various archeological discoveries, such as the marble inscription exhibited in the city’s local library. Alpignano also plays a central role in modern history. Here, in 1885, thanks to the discovery by Turin’s Alessandro Cruto, the first electric light bulb factory was built.
