Castagnole Monferrato (AT)

Breezy with green hills from where all the most beautiful summits of the Alps can be admired, from Monviso to Monte Rosa, from Cervino to Monte Bianco, frame the town of Castagnole Monferrato. The name recalls the chestnut (castagna) woods, which at one time covered these hills and which today have been replaced by immense vineyards. The town of Castagnole is a lovely hamlet with characteristic views and ancient homes, many of which date back to the15th century, gathered around the places of worship. Among these, both the 18th century Parish Church of San Martino and the Confraternity of the Annuziata - a splendid example of Baroque style, deserve a visit. A different architectural masterpiece is represented by the historical cantinas dug into the tuff, where renowned local wines – above all, Ruche di Castagnole Monferrato, a DOC wine with unique characteristics – can be tasted. The town is also well-known for its sundial and for the great torch in the “Tenuta la Mercantile” cantinas, where the most important city events are held.
