Isola d'Asti (AT)

As its name attests, Isola D’Asti was originally built on land that was surrounded by the Tanaro River. Following frequent floods and epidemics, the residents of the island moved uphill, creating the present day town. The remains of this town’s historical past are: the 17th century bell tower, a small church built in 1680 in Mongovone and dedicated to the Immaculate Conception, and the Parish Church of San Pietro built in the 17th century and restructured at the end of the 19th century. The local economy is mainly agricultural, thanks to the town’s impressive wine and gastronomic traditions, which has Barber DOC (denomination of controlled origin) wine and truffles as its real jewels.
