Gaglianico (BI)
The castle of Gaglianico has been the subject of historical and architectural study because it is a good example of a Biella castle construction. Passing from hand to hand due to complex events of heredity and sales, it remained in the hands of the Ferrero-Fieschi family for a long time before it was acquired by the Biella industrialist Carlo Manabrea and then by the Trossi counts who paid for long and delicate restoration work. And so, the earliest center, which probably developed around the oldest tower – a basic element in the town’s defense system, was replaced by the present one, the fruit of Charles d’Ambroise’s reconstruction characterized by showy transalpine features, especially in the interior courtyard. The castle park, designed by Andre Le Notre (1613-1700) and redone between 1933 and 1935 by the architect Luigi Danieri also deserves a visit.
