Sordevolo (BI)
The air inhaled in Sordevolo engulfs the tourist in a singular and unexpected atmosphere. The town is located a bit more than 600 MSL, has about 1,300 residents, and is crossed by the Elvo River, which has always ensured a certain prosperity to the town. Sordevolo is known as a town of cloth weavers and of mule drivers (thanks to the millennium-old irrigation ditch carved out by the river), but also as the town of the “Passion”. Since the mid 19th century, every five years in fact, the entire town breaks its characteristic silence to give voice to the sacrifice of Christ. And so, with the seven town churches as a backdrop - which testify to the faith of this place - this religious event, which involves the entire community, comes to life with more than three hundred actors and extras in costume who recite the lines of Giuliano Dati, presented for the first time between the 6th and 7th century at the Coliseum by the Roman Archconfraternity of the Gonfalone for Holy Week.
