Agliè (TO)
The fame of this small town in the area of Canavese is tied to two people: Filippo d’Aglie and Guido Gozzano. Linked to the former, are the events of the castle; created as a defensives structure in the 12th century, it was transformed in the 17th century according to the will of Filippo d’Aglie and then restructured several times afterwards into a magnificent residency used by the Savoy until the end of WWII. Also the park that surrounds the castle is splendid; intersected by seven kilometers of boulevards and lanes, it is enriched with age-old trees, Italian and English gardens, fountains and sculptures, among them, a real stand-out is the Esedra with the statues of the Po and of the Dora Baltea and Riparia, a work by the Collino brothers. Regarding Guido Gozzano, it should be remembered that the poet stayed in Aglie for a long time at the home of the “Meleto” family, located a few kilometers from the town; it was here that Gozzano was inspired to write several of the most beautiful pages in Italian literature.
