Beinasco (TO)

It is a large urban center which gravitates towards the metropolitan area of Turin, in the southern belt, along the Sangone River, and is made-up of a group of hamlets and outlying areas including Borgaretto and Fornaci. Until the ‘50’s, farming dominated the area and the only other work opportunities were at the brick producing furnaces; but, since in the ‘50’s, the town has undergone a series of transformations tied to Turin’s industrial and economic development. And so, Beinasco finds itself as the gravitational center of the great industrial triangle made-up of Fiat of Mirafiori (Turin), of Grugliasco, and of Rivalta; as a result, the so-called “industry of economics” has found particular fortune here with the construction of numerous artisan and industrial installations. The industrial zone was initially created in the north, between the capital and outlying Fornaci, but bit-by-bit it spread south towards Orvassano and then to Borgaretto. It should not be forgotten, in any case, that along with strong demographic and industrial development, Beinasco still preserves several precious testaments to its past, which are located in its historical town center: the Roman inscription found in the garden of the present parsonage and the Parish Church of San Giacomo Apostolo from the 16th century, but reconstructed several times until its present form following the design, in 1740, of Giovanni Tommaso Pronotti, who had collaborated with Juvarra on the construction of the Stupinigi Hunting Lodge, the Church of the Confraternity of Santa Croce following Bernardo Vittone’s design.
