Mango (CN)
The writer Beppe Fenoglio immortalized many corners of this town through words, corners where, as a partisan, he spent long months during the War of Liberation. In remembrance of the author of “Partigiano Johnny” (“Partisan Johnny”), an outdoor Cultural Park was created that winds down a path with 35 stops which are almost always located at panoramic spots in the town and in the town’s outskirts and where important events, marked by wrought-iron installations, took place which Fenoglio writes about in books and stories. The Mango Castle, which dominates the town, was rebuilt in the 18th century on the foundation of a pre-existing fortress as requested by the Marquis’ di Brusca who wanted an elegant home as their summer residency. Located in the castle’s ancient prison, is the Colline del Moscato Regional Wine Cellar which promotes the territory of the fifty-two Communities of Moscato d’Asti which extends over the provinces of Cuneo, Asti, and Alessandria. About one hundred cantinas have joined in with their products from wine harvesting: Moscato d’Asti wine, Asti Spumante, Moscato Passito, and Grappa di Moscato.
