Cities
Bra (CN)
You can walk up towards Monte Guglielmo, the highest hill in Bra, where you can reach the park of the Zizzola, an octagonal building built in 1840 and the symbol of the city today. This villa of delights offers an evocative panorama of the city. The Ghibelline-style medieval battlements of the Palazzo Traversa rise above the rooftops, as do the domes of Baroque churches. The historical buildings around the old market square form an ideal frame for it. The dome of the church of Santa Chiara stands, out, a masterpiece of Piedmont Rococo designed by Bernardo Vittone. Nestled in the Roero hills, Bra is a city of art that over the last several years has been claiming a strong identity as a centre of fine wines and foods. It was here in Via della Mendicità Istruita that Slow Food was founded in 1989. This international association organises Cheese, the most important international exhibition and fair dedicated to high-quality cheese. A few kilometres from Bra in the town of Pollenzo the Università di Scienze Gastronomiche, the “university of gastronomic sciences,” was founded in 2004. This is the first university in the world entirely dedicated to the culture of food.
