Murazzano (CN)

Already during the time of the Romans, the town was known for its “tome” production, including the enjoyable variety called “bross” (tome brought to maturation), the typical cheese that can be spread on toasted bread. One of the “D.o.p” cheeses from Piedmont - safeguarded by the protective Consortium of the same name - took its name, “Murazzano”, from this town in the Alta Langa. It is a fresh whole milk cheese shaped like a tube made from sheep’s milk and, in some cases, with 40% cows’ milk. It is a small, milky white cheese (tomino), uniform and without a crust and with a light, slightly aromatic flavor. It is also produced in other towns in the province of Cuneo and in the Alta Langa hills.
Murazzano still has its ancient 33 meter tower; located in the town’s upper part, it is all the remains of the castle, while other traces of the ancient fortification are visible both within the town and in the immediate surrounding area. Among the holy sites, the Baroque Sanctuary dell Madonna di Hal, built during the first half of the 17th century, stands out.
