Cities

Borgaro Torinese (TO)

It is not a simple community, but real and proper city. In 2003, by a Decree from the President of the Republic, it was given the title of City, which recognizes the presence of the services required to qualify for citizenship. Located at the entrance of Canavese, where it acts as a sort of perfect gate, it was, in all probability, the seat of a defensive garrison for Augusta Taurinorum (Turin). An artistically important building is the Palazzo Birago di Borgaro, which was transformed in the 18th century from a medieval castle into a palazzo following the design of Count Ignazio Birago; it was completed in 1787. The Castle di Santa Cristina, built around 1655 by Francois Havard de Senantes, stands out due to its stateliness and architectural value.
