Cafasse (TO)
It seems that the origin of the name goes back to the Latin Cafaxie: scattered houses or houses in a group, that is, in small gatherings that then become hamlets and in this case, built on land wrested from the Stura River. According to tradition, on the other hand, the name Cafasse was spelt “Cabasse” to indicate the small, low houses of farmers and shepherds. The Roch Bridge, later called the Devil’s Bridge, built in 1378 to allow easier passage to nearby Lanzo which is on the left bank of the Stura River and where already in 1219 there was a market every Tuesday, is formed by a single arch made out of river stone, and is 23 meters high and with a span of 37.
