Ormea (CN)
A trip to the center of the Earth for speleology lovers of caves and wells, sometimes completely unexplored, plus an extensive choice of activities for other mountain lovers over the Grande Traversata delle Alpi trails, the horseback or mountain bike trails, the climbing training rooms, Cantarana’s Centro Fondo, and the possibility to go fishing are all offered here. Ormea has cultivated its tourist industry by using the surrounding mountains, which in the past were used by the various armies that occupied them in order to control communication lines – from the Saracen pirates to the French Republicans, to whom the partial destruction of the castle that dominates the city from the San Mauro hill is owed.
