UNESCO has placed the Racconigi Castle, from the circuit of Savoy Residencies, under its protection and considers it world heritage. The industrial archeological remains that exist alongside these elegant country villas and noble palaces around Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II, remind us that Racconigi was also, from the 15th to the 18th century, the capital of the Piedmont silk industry. In the last several years, instead, the “Factory of Ideas”, an artistic review of the works created by those with different abilities, has been established and has taken its name from the sarcastic appellation given to the provincial mental health hospital, open until 1998 in an 18th century building, by the locals. It’s not by chance that the artistic review takes place, in fact, in the rooms of the former hospital, as well as in the Castle and the town’s historical center. In the great garden attached to the Castle, there is also the Lipu Stork Centro, created to protect the white stork population that nests there.
