Serralunga d'Alba (CN)
If a pharmacist from Atlanta (United States) invented Coca Cola, one owes the intuition for the creation of the Barolo Chinato recipe to his college, Giuseppe Cappellano, originally from Serralunga. This spicy wine, with a D.O.C. Barolo wine base, very prized as a wine to sit and enjoy and also as a cure-all for anything that ails you, was already on sale in his Turin shop at the beginning of the 20th century and today is the most characteristic local product.
The town was built in a concentrated fashion around the castle built by Pietrino Falletti between 1340 and 1350. This is a sloping and powerful keep with two attached towers – one square and one circular. The structure is in the severe style of a fortress - few windows and limited ornamentation. The adjacent two-storey guest quarters were added in the 16th century.
