Frassinello Monferrato (AL)
This agricultural center in the Basso Monferrato is dominated by the Castle of the Counts Sacchi Nemours and maintains traces of the defense systems and the fortress that enclosed it during the Middle Ages – a period which is recreated on Good Friday when a cortege in medieval costumes winds through the streets of the town. On a hill east of the town, the Lignano Castle, believed to be one of the oldest in Monferrato, can be seen. The area is famous for the production of Barbera and Grignolino wines.
