Borgomanero (NO)
Borgomanero, the most important urban center, after the capital, in the province of Novara, is located in an ideal spot: a handful of kilometers away from the picturesque Lake d’Orta, from the majestic Lake Maggiore, and from the stupendous hills of Vergante and Cusio. Boromanero’s cultural heritage digs its roots into the fertile soil of its humble farming origins and it is these origins that inspire the city’s most important event: the Sagra dell’Uva (The Grape Festival), a popular festival with a parade of floats and bands and with various exhibits which the mayor Gianni Colombo put in place in 1936 during the grape harvest season. Later on, the Sagra became part of a more extensive series of festivals called Settembre Borgomanerese. Also the city’s cultural initiatives are noteworthy, which are especially evident at Villa Marazza, which the distinguished attorney and politician, Achille Marazza, left to the city so that “the family manor would be set up as a public library and cultural center”, and is the seat of the Achille Marazza Foundation. The library, immersed in a vast park of age-old oaks, has an extensive collection of books, prints, documents, and medals dating back to the 1500’s.
