Caltignaga (NO)
A working agricultural center specializing in rice farming, Caltignaga has a past filled with struggle as is testified to by the castle in the hamlet of Marghengo – later turned into an elegant country home –and by the castle with the huge guard tower located in the center of town. Near Caltignaga, the remains of a Roman aqueduct that carried water from the Agogna River to the spa of Novara can be seen. Construction, according to local custom, is known by its compactness, as in the Muraglione, which legend believes was built by the executioner in one night and so, it is called the Murajon dal Boia (The Executioner’s Large Rampart).
