Cities
Carpignano Sesia (NO)
The Ricetto Castle is the ancient city center around which Carpignano was built. Other than its historical importance, the town is also known for a wonderful weight press from 1575 kept inside one the town’s buildings. This is the oldest example of a press in Piedmont and made up of a 13-meter-long elm trunk used to crush the grapes. On the provincial road between Carpignano and Ghislarengo, is the Bosco dei Preti (The Priests’ Woods), a rich oasis of animal and plant species. In the woods surrounding the town, there are many springs, some of which have their origins and take their names from the beds of ancient and abandoned branches of the Sesia River, such as the Valsalice, Ramo della Cavalla, Sibla (very popular during the summer), Perego, and Bosco dei Lupi springs.
