Crodo (VB)
Crodo owes its notoriety to the “pale soft drink that everyone is crazy about”: Crodino. But this little town located in the Antigorio Valley is also famous for its waters and their therapeutic properties well-known since time immemorial. The thermal activity and the industry that sprung from this natural wealth create Crodo’s main economic resource. Masterpieces of modern architecture in Crodo are the hydroelectric plants from the last century – the work of Piero Portaluppi – which together constitute a high-profile industrial architectural heritage, as do the plants from Ossola. From another period, the Parish Church di San Stefano still has traces of the original Romanesque construction in the little wall arches of the apse and windows. The church was enlarged and reworked between the 16th and the 17th centuries.
