Carignano (TO)
Located in a charming spot, characterized by a pleasant green countryside, by historically and artistically relevant buildings, and by a people tied to their traditions, Carignano is the typical example of a Piedmont community that has survived almost untouched by the changing times and the wars which have come upon it all the same. The historical center is striking for its porticos and beautiful homes with lancet windows and rich ornamentation from the 15th century. The city’s architectural “jewel” is, in any case, the 18th century Cathedral di San Giovanni Battista and San Remigio, considered one of Benedetto Alfieri’s best works. No less interesting are the religious structures, such as the 17th century Church di Sant’Agostino and the more centrally located Chapel-Sanctuary del Vallinotto, a youthful work by the architect Bernardo Vittone.
