Caselle Torinese (TO)

Known to everyone as the city with Turin’s airport, Caselle is worth much more than a quick and fleeing glance from above. It is crossed by the Stura di Lanzo River and is rich in woods and fertile land. The waters of the river have marked the town’s economy since the 12th century when it was first used for the production of paper. From an historical and artistic point of view, Caselle is interesting for its religious structures, all of rather ancient origin. Worthy of mention, due to the treasure it keeps, is the Chapel della Madonnina with precious frescoes inside. The oldest frescoes are of uncertain origin, but could have been done by painters from the school of Jaquerio, of Ducco, or of Ferrari-Spanzotti, all of whom were very active in Piedmont at the beginning of the 16trh century.
