Ceresole Reale (TO)

One of the best-known tourist resorts in the Canavese, Ceresole Reale is one of the Comunità Montana Valli (Mountain and Valley Communities) of Orco e Soana. Most of it lies within the Parco Nazionale del Gran Paradiso, covering a surface area of 1,400 m from the lowest hamlets at 3,600 m of the Levanne mountain group. The area comprises small villages dotting a splendid river basin and an artificial lake. It is surrounded by smooth rock faces which are the dream of freestyle rock-climbers. Beyond the lake are torrents, small waterfalls and meadows speckled with alpine flowers. Consequently it is no surprise that Ceresole has such flourishing tourism, also if we consider the historical, artistic and gastronomic surprises it has to offer. And this particular tourism boasts a long tradition. Suffice to say that at the end of the nineteenth century it was one of the preferred destinations of the royal family and the aristocracy in the summer. The poet, Giosuè Carducci, composed the ode “Piemonte” while beholding the peaks of the Levanne group (“serrated, sparkling peaks”).
