Cities
Chivasso (TO)
Located a near the Po, a bit further on from the point where the Orco stream flows into it, on the edges of the Canavese sub-region, Chivasso has always been regarded as the transition between upper and lower Piedmont. It openly welcomes its visitors, inviting them to stroll underneath its Medieval porticos which characterize the historical center and are the fulcrum of everyday life in the town. Here one finds numerous shops where to buy all kinds of goods, from clothing to local handicrafts, wine and food specialties. Among these, the “Nocciolini” stand out, small sweets made from Piedmont hazelnuts, sugar and egg whites. Other attractions in the historical town centre are the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta, a fifteenth-century church that boasts a precious brick façade in late Gothic style, and an octagonal Tower, a vestige of the mighty castle erected by the Monferrato marquises in the twelfth century. Among the traditional events, the “Carnevalone” distinguishes itself, a large festival parade of allegorical floats and masked groups.
