Collegno (TO)

Collegno is a happy town that has always been active and full of visitors. Known in Roman times for its strategic geographical position and ideal access into France, and for its intense industrial activity during the eighteenth century, today Collegno is younger and more dynamic than ever before. Entertainment drawing a lot of Piedmont’s young people is held in the area, such as the music festival “Colonia Sonora”, featuring world-class artists on the stage of Certosa Reale every summer. The history of the monumental complex of Certosa Reale is very important to the town. Built in the middle of the seventeenth century as the Carthusian cenoby in a vast park, it has a monumental entrance portal created on a project by Filippo Juvarra. In 1852 the entire complex was used as the Royal Insane Asylum and was radically renovated. The immense green area was only transformed into a public park following the abolition of psychiatric hospitals.
