Nichelino (TO)

Until the sixteenth century Nichelino was the stronghold of Moncalieri. The history that brought the independence to the borough began in the middle of the sixteenth century when the Occelli family obtained the stronghold in concession from the Duca di Savoia. Only at the end of the seventeenth century did King Vittorio Amedeo II declare Nicolino (Nichelino) and its neighbouring areas a sole territory separate from Moncalieri. Today the town is distinguished by its dynamism: along with its artistic-historic itineraries, it offers a packed calendar of cultural events and much more, topped by a tour of the superb rooms of the Palazzina di Caccia di Stupinigi. You can enjoy nature and cultural excursions in the countryside outside the town. Among these you will find Castelvecchio, the old Medieval manor house of the Pallavicino marquis, located in the Parco Naturale di Stupinigi. In the same location is the Cascina della Rusca, built in the vicinity of the Lejra canal, and a preserved mill built to grind oak bark.
