Pralormo (TO)

The borough is named after the Pralormo castle, built at the end of the thirteenth century to protect this area of Piemonte sought after by the Biandrate and the city of Asti. A radical restoration project made it into elegant upper-class residences during the nineteenth century. In those years the same thing happened to the court gardens, which were transformed from a small rose garden (cited in the chronicles of the sixteenth century) into an elegant English-style park thanks to the intervention of architect Xavier Kurten. Towards the end of the century, the Orangery, a glass greenhouse, and the grand waterfall were added to the building. The castle is still the home of the Beraudo family of Pralormo, who commissioned the nineteenth century restoration, and it can be visited at certain times of the year. The outbuildings are also open to the public for some cultural events, such as the floricultural exposition "Messer Tulipano", which allows visitors to admire the extraordinary springtime blossoming of over 50,000 tulips.
