Cities
Santena (TO)
One of the most active towns of the Torino province, Santena continues to be mainly a farming community. The characteristic product of Santena is a particular quality of asparagus, officially protected because of its peculiarities. The city’s main tourist attractions are the places associated with the figure of Count Camillo Benso di Cavour: his castle, gardens and tomb. The castle is an important monumental complex of the eighteenth century, which comprises the houses (home-museum with documentation on the private and public life of the politician, Camillo Benso di Cavour), the Diplomatic Room, the English-style park conceived by Xavier Kurten, Cavour’s tomb (a declared national monument) and the tower, a reconstructed medieval building that was partially demolished in the eighteenth century for the purposes of extending the parish church. The rooms built in the eighteenth century are currently used for cultural events and exhibitions.
