Chiusa Pesio (CN)
Agriculture, craftwork and tourism, represent the main industry of this town, which dates back to the beginning of the XI century. The pristine, pollution free mountains and valleys that surround the town have been protected from human interference by the foundation of the Parco Regionale dell’Alta Valle Pesio (High Pesio Valley Regional Park). The protected area of the Valle Tanaro (Tanaro Valley) and several nature Reserves in the province of Cuneo, with a surface of almost 7.000 hectares in total, are also under the authority of the Regional Park. The history of Chiusa di Pesio is closely connected to that of the Carthusian monastery, which was founded in 1173, thanks to a land donation by the Lord of Morozzo to the Carthusian Order. From the early nineteen hundreds, the monastery went back to its original function as spiritual centre, thanks to the dedication of the Consoled Missionaries that are its present rectors.
