Borgosesia (VC)

The most valuable wool and fur from Asia, Australia and South America arrive in Borgosesia for the final manufacturing stage, which will turn them into the precious fabrics used for Italian and international haute couture creations. The manufacturing industry is the pride of this town, which is among the most industrialized of Italy. Even the legendary “giubbe rosse” (Red Shirts) for the “spedizione dei mille” (Garibaldi´s Thousand expedition) were sewn here by the ‘Manifattura Lane’ (Wool Manufactory). A nature park was created to protect the ‘Monte Fenera’ (Fenera Mountain), which is located right outside the town, preserved in its caves are human and animal traces dating back to the Palaeolithic. On the road to Novara, is the Sacro Monte di Sant’Anna di Montrigone (St Anne of Montrigone Sacred Mountain), this religious complex was erected in 1631 by the people as a votive offering. Borgosesia is a small town that retains its traditions, the one that especially stands out is linked to the Carnival, and dates back to the early seventeen hundreds. The last evening of Carnival, on a Wednesday – called the “Mercù Scùrot”-, is celebrated with a funeral procession to which the people of Borgosesia take part wearing a tailcoat, a bow tie, and a top hat, they also stop for a drink in every bar that is open along the procession.
