Carpeneto (AL)
Carpeneto is a small town with less than a thousand inhabitants that extends between the vineyards, and is famous for its Castle. Historians trace "Castrum Carpani" (from which Carpeneto) back to an ancient strategic and military post, which had the function of stationes (stopping-place) along the Via Emilia, that goes from Tortona and Acqui Terme to Genova. The structure of the drawbridge, the weaponry rooms and the garrison rooms, the prisons and the underground passages, over forty metres deep have survived the passing of time and can still be visited today.
