Moncrivello (VC)
Moncrivello stands on a hill of morainal origins, which straddles the zones of Canavese and Vercelli. The Dora Baltea flows close to the western town boundaries, while the Vercelli plains brush its eastern borders. Thanks to this privileged location, it offers a 360°view: from San Gaudenzio of Novara to the Basilica of Superga, from the Monferrato area to the Alps. The castle, which used to be a powerful defensive stronghold in the early middle Ages, dominates the town from the top of the hill. It can be dated back to the year 1000, by its type of Romanesque architecture. From that moment the history of the town has coincided with that of the castle. The chiesa di San Francesco (St Francis’ church), dating back to the fourteen hundreds, and the Santuario della Beata Vergine del Trompone (Sanctuary of the Blessed Virgin of Trompone) are two further sites of artistic value in Moncrivello.
