Rovasenda (VC)
This town has grown up in the centre of the moors of the Vercelli region, which is a territory with special characteristics both in the subsoil and in its vegetation. In 1170, a stronghold was built on a hill, which would have become the core of the present castle, while the tower that still today overlooks the building dates back to 1459, is 48 metres high and is considered by many to be one of the more beautiful and better preserved towers of Piemonte. The lords’ chapel, which is situated on the southeastern corner of the shelter, was given the title of parish church in the XVII century and is dedicated to Saint Mary Our Lady of the Assumption. In fact the main axis of the central nave is positioned in such a way that on 22nd September, the festival of Saint Maurice, the original patron saint, the sun rises behind the church and sets in the evening precisely in front of the façade.
