Bioglio (BI)

Located in the heart of the province of Biella, Bioglio is known for its temperate climate and its natural beauty. Surrounded by hills, it is characterized by a vast mountain pasture called the “frazione Alpi” (the Alp hamlet). In an area between 1100 and 2500 meters which extends over 9 squared kilometers, one runs into many mountain pastures where excellent cheeses such as Toma (a semi-hard cow’s milk cheese) are produced in the old way.
Bioglio is also the preferred destination of newlyweds, who have always vied for the Santuario di Banchette (Banchette Sanctuary) at the foot of mount Rovella, and was the destination of pilgrims until the last century. The Sanctuary’s Madonna is called by the locals “dal bollo” (“branded”), referring to an event that, according to tradition, saw the Madonna hit with a stone in the forehead by a crazy man.
