Alagna Valsesia (VC)
This tourist town is the last town in Valsesia, at the foot of the south face of Monte Rosa. Situated at an altitude of 1,191 metres above sea level, it is one of Piedmont’s most important tourist resorts. Rock climbers, mountaineers, skiers, but also anglers and mushroom pickers and even just those with a passion for the mountains and the splendid scenery, come to Alagna to enjoy a little piece of paradise. The territory occupied by the municipality is part of the Alta Valsesia Natural Park, the highest in Europe. Alagna is the proud home of the ancient Walser tradition, the Walsers being a German-speaking population of Swiss origin who crossed the Alpine passes during the 12th and 13th centuries, descending the Italian slope of the Alps and settling in the three valleys of the Lys, Sesia and Toce. The characteristic settlements are found mainly in the higher part of the town. A visit to one of these historical urban clusters or to the characteristic Walser Museum (in Pedemonte), takes the visitor back in time, surrounding him in a fairytale atmosphere.
