Cities
Asigliano Vercellese (VC)
The ancient signs of a past filled with battles and death, such as the “great wall” and the bell tower, built from one of the castle’s towers, offer a reminder that Asigliano’s origins date back to the days of Roman occupation. The population of this town is devoted to San Vittore, and the day dedicated to the Saint is celebrated every year with the traditional ox race. In 1436, a terrible plague hit the town which, legend would have it, was saved by the intervention of the Saint, to whom the population called out for help. The “miracle” is remembered every May with a festival during which the ox race is held to pay homage to the Saint.
