Boccioleto (VC)

Situated in Valsesia, beneath a boulder known as Giavine which is over 90 metres tall, near the confluence of two streams, the Sermenza and the Cavaione, Boccioleto is famous for its natural beauty and breathtaking landscapes. In the summer, this peaceful spot fills up with tourists, fascinated by the place, which has a rich artistic heritage. Of particular interest are the Oratory of S. Lorenzo, in the locality of Alpe Seccio, built in the latter half of the 12th century and home to 15th century frescoes, and the church of S. Antonio Abate. Recent studies have revealed that the splendid pyramid-shaped wooden altar was sculpted by Giovanni Battista and Gaudenzio Sceti in about 1650.
