From Federico Barbarossa to Napoleon Bonaparte, the history of Alessandria is marked by many episodes connected with armies and warfare. This war faring past is reflected in the character of the people and in the location and layout of a city closely confined between the two rivers that form its boundaries. Historians, collectors of model soldiers and military enthusiasts who are interested in experiencing the atmosphere of the Battle of Marengo can take part in the historically accurate re-enactment held annually in the grounds of one of the city’s noble villas. An exhibition of weapons and prints of the period is on display inside the building.
