Torino World Design Capital
Torino is the first World Design Capital. For the whole of 2008, the city will be transformed into a model promoting territorial planning. Torino World Design Capital is broken down into four phases to address citizens, businesses, the academic and training world and institutions, in the conviction that design is an instrument of economic, social and cultural development.
Che scatto!
The unconventional spaces of Vice Direzione Generale Gabinetto del Sindaco e Servizi Culturali della Città di Torino (Deputy Managers’ department of Mayor’s office and Cultural Services of the City of Torino) host 40 photographers from Torino and Piemonte. “Che scatto!” (What a shot!) presents authors of all generations, but focusing particularly on the younger ones. Some “foreign” guests have also been invited with their special works.
Il Salotto di Mao
The summer edition of the live-salon presented by Mao, musician and MTV VJ, and dedicated to the emerging Piedmontese artistic panorama has just started. Attended by bands, singer-songwriters, dancers, designers and many other guests, Il Salotto di Mao (Mao’s Salon) is a prestigious as well as eccentric showcase for every creative artist.

If King Kong gets micro
And if, in the age of the multiplex, Torino’s oldest cinema, named after the giant monkey King Kong, turned into a microplex? The answer, difficult to guess, will be clear to everybody starting from 17th January 2008.
A year around the Alps
The section of Club Alpino Italiano (Italian Alpine Club) of Chieri (Province of Torino) is 80 years old and will celebrate with a ring tour around the Alps lasting one year. This tour will touch peaks over 4,000 metres high, 48 refuges and camps, 28 Alpine valleys, 65 passes, 3 nations, 4 cross-border regions, 7 provinces and 85 municipalities.
Ai monti! Ceramiche d'arte 1930-1950
The Museo della Montagna (Museum of the Mountain) in Torino is drawing again from its resources to promote a new interesting exhibition which can be visited until 26th October 2008. The title is “Ai monti! Ceramiche d'arte 1930-1950” (Go to the mountains! Art pottery 1930-1959), a showcase with rare or unobtainable artist pottery, many with alpine subjects, which have made “history” in the Italian house living rooms of the first half of the XX century.

More than 200 articles of furniture, architectural models, fabrics, saddles, plates and glasses, and photographs and documents from Alexander Von Vegesack’s private collection are on display at the Pinacoteca Agnelli until the 6th of July.
Le porte del Mediterraneo
The Ministry of Culture for the Regione Piemonte is putting forward Le Porte del Mediterraneo (The Gates of the Mediterranean), an ensemble of initiatives inspired by the uniqueness of the Mediterranean, planned for Rivoli and Torino from April to September, 2008.
Mood.
Fluido (River Side room) is hosting a night called Mood., certainly one of the main novelties in Torino clubbing panorama. Focused on electronic music and dedicated to who cannot spend sleepless nights, it stresses the positive and bright atmosphere pervading the musical proposal, DJs, organizers and location.

Pedro Cabrita Reis – Mario Merz
Portugese artist Pedro Cabrita Reis’ artistic installation “converses” with several works of art from the Mario Merz collection in the rooms of the Fondazione named after this master of “Arte Povera”. The main themes of this new display are painting, memory, measurement, handiwork immersed in an architectural dimension.
Nespolocinema
The exhibit that proposes many days of projections to discover Nespolo, the film director illustrates how the only things Italian avant garde artists of the 1960’s needed were “a camera in their hand and an idea in their head” to produce experimental artistic cinema.
Itinerari d’Arte in Piemonte

Festival delle Province
The Festival, a national itinerant exhibition dedicated to popular tradition, is focusing its programme in Piemonte from June 28th to August 30th in the provinces of Torino and Cuneo. Popular concerts, Commedia dell’Arte, engagements with classical music and theatrical works are all scheduled.

XXIII World Congress of Architecture UIA
From June 29 to July 3, 2008, Torino will be the setting of a world event that unites thousands of architects and students every three years to explore a theme involving architecture’s views concerning major current social and cultural issues. “Il Pifferaio Magico” (Pied Piper), in its 14th edition, is scheduled from June 17 – July 17, 2008. It could be considered the natural continuation of the events organised by the Fondazione Teatro Ragazzi e Giovani and the Città di Torino during the winter months.

From July 1 – 16, 100 big names of contemporary circus are meeting in the Parco le Serre, magically transforming Grugliasco (To) into Italy’s circus capital. 30 shows on the playbill and over 60 candidates from all over the world to participate in the International Competition for Young Artists. “Sul Filo del Circo” is the most anticipated and followed summer festival on the national panorama.
Johnny D & Krakatoa
On Sunday July 6th, the 18th century Villa Capriglio will serve as a backdrop for a sensational electronic music marathon which begins in the afternoon and goes on through the night. Stars of the event: Johnny D and Krakatoa, introduced by Step e Rills and Breezo e Victor.
Music Planet
The festival of Ethno-musical films created by Musica 90 invites the public to place their eyes and lean their ears upon the variegated world of music and peoples, cultures and religions. The 2008 edition will be enhanced by many opportunities to meet authors and musicians.

Michael Nyman and Richard Galliano are two of the event-names that will be animating the second edition of “Anfiteatro e Stelle”, the musical event that the township of Borgo San Dalmazzo and Associazione Nuvolari Libera Tribù are organising in the open air amphitheatre in Monserrato.
Manti Regali a Corte
In the Galleria Grande at the Reggia di Venaria Reale by architect Filippo Juvara, a new exposition allows the public to admire the capes and ceremonial gowns that once belonged to Maria José of Sassonia-Coburgo Gotha, wife of King Umberto II and Italy’s last queen until November 3, 2008.

The more than 500 appointments with music, cinema, theatre, dance, cabaret, art and entertainment at 360° that come magically out of the large and colourful container of Torino d’Estate toss a breath of fresh air onto the hot summer in the capital of the Piemonte Region. Events scheduled from June to September are spread out through the crucial points of town.
La stanza dei 40 giorni
Promoting the cultural heritage of Piemonte through a travelling show in museums, castles and unconventional places of the Region: this is “La stanza dei 40 giorni”, presented by the Progetto Zoran, an experimental theatre company in Torino. Until November.
Festival Teatri di Confine
The 10th edition of the Festival Teatri di Confine, will be taking place between July and September in four provinces of Piemonte, bringing about seventy shows to a total of 42 towns. The festival, including Italian, European and international companies is pronouncing itself in the sections of Street Theatre and Narrative Theatre, accompanied by many novelties.
