La Reggia di Venaria e i Savoia
Reggia di Venaria
from 12.10.2007 to 11.05.2008
The Reggia di Venaria, one of the most important examples of 17th and 18th century International Baroque splendor and architecture, is preparing itself as the star of a new historical period characterized by culture, by modernity, and by contemporary leisure. For this reason, the much awaited inauguration of the sumptuous Savoy manor corresponds to that of an important exhibit entitled “La Reggia di Venaria e i Savoia. Arte, magnificenza e storia di una corte europea” (“The Reggia di Venaria and the Savoy. Art, Magnificence and History of a European Court”), which has found a place among the manor’s splendid halls. The show, the first in a series of “temporanee” (temporary exhibits) which will, from time to time, go on to be included in the permanent collection, sheds light on the history of the dynasty that was a protagonist in European political and military events between the 16th and 18th centuries, presenting its precious architectural creations, its illustrious artistic acquisitions, and its intriguing court life through permanent installations and a large selection of art works from the most prestigious national and international museums as well as from public Piemonte collections. The exhibit gives a main role to film d’auteur, thanks to an ad hoc project created by the English director Peter Greenway, which takes advantage of avant-garde technology to repopulate the Reggia and bring it back to live within a continuous dialogue of Contemporary and Baroque art.
