Teatro Regio: I Concerti 2007-08
Teatro Regio Torino
from 27.10.2007 to 19.05.2008
Eight concerts featuring great classics, the 20th century, and films for a season “senza frontiere” (“without borders”). The Orchestra and the Coro (Chorus) of the Teatro Regio (trained by Claudio Marino Moretti) and the Filarmonica ‘900 - the independent orchestra founded by professors from the Teatro, will take turns on the stage of the most elegant theater in Torino. For the first time, concerts this year will be introduced by brief get-togethers (starting at 7:45 p.m.) with the stars of each performance along with people selected ad hoc who will discuss what the audience is about to hear. This is a new, direct line of communication between the stage and the audience and offers a new way to “listen to music”. Starting off with the “Messa da requiem” by Giuseppe Verdi performed by the Orchestra and the Chorus of the Teatro Regio directed by Maestro Gianandrea Noseda, the season continues with a live performance of the soundtrack from Charlie Chaplin’s masterpiece, “Luci della città” (“City Lights”) by the Teatro Regio’s Filarmonica ‘900 under the direction of Timothy Brock, composer and a very elegant restorer of the music from silent films. Great anticipation for the renowned “Carmina Burana” by Carl Orff, in a brilliant interpretation by the young and talented Czech director, Tomas Netopil leading the Teatro Regio’s Chorus and Orchestra. Much curiosity for the performance by the never-before-seen pairs Capossela/Mario Brunello (in “Fuggite, amanti, Amor. Rime e Lamentazioni per Michelangelo”) and Gianmaria Testa/Paolo Fresu. Continuing through an intense program focused on the early 20th century (from Webern to Strauss, from Schoenberg to Respighi, from Nino Rota to Sergej Prokof and Dimitrij Sostakovic), the season ends with a jazz concert starring the Filarmonica ‘900 flanked by the Torino Jazz Orchestra, with the extraordinary participation of the internationally famous vocal ensemble, New York Voices.
