Olympic Stars – The Cinema of Champions

Since its earliest days, the Olympics have been the star of scads of films and documentaries. Just as numerous are the Olympic champions who, once they’ve ended their athletic careers, have looked for ways to express themselves and find fame in movies. A forerunner in this tendency, from the Olympic Winter Games, was the ice skater Sonja Henie, followed by the skier, Toni Sailer, and by many other Olympic stars. The cinema of champions was created through collaborations between the Museo Nazionale della Montagna (National Museum of the Mountain), the Musee Olympique (Olympic Museum) in Lausanne (Switzerland), and the Maison des Jeux Olympiques (House of the Olympic Games) in Albertville (France). The result of deep research which led to the discovery of posters, promotional materials, and films from every part of the world, this is an exhibit able to attract both sports fans and movie fans. After having been installed in Torino, the show will be set up at the Maison des Jeux Olympiques in Albertville in 2008 and at the Musee Olympique in Lausanne in 2009, then will continue on, set up at other important international locations.
