Palazzo Madama

from 01.09.2008 to 30.09.2008

The cultural heritage represented at Palazzo Madama (Madama Palace) mainly consists of objects coming from Piemonte’s territory, but it is also enriched by the works of artists and collectors who were born in Piemonte and created or gathered some of the most significant masterpieces now shown in the rooms. The project called Province a Palazzo (Provinces in the Palace) aims at enhancing the value of these works by proposing new exhibition itineraries inside Palazzo Madama, each month focusing on a different province of Piemonte. The works selected for the special itineraries mainly come from the province of the month, but they have also been chosen with a view to “breaking” the limit of the current administrative borders, and to inserting provinces in a wider cultural context These works document the production of artists not only active in one province, but also in the regional and international scenario. Each month the residents in the province selected for the new exhibition itinerary have the opportunity to enter Palazzo Madama with the ticket price at 1 euro, after showing their identity card.
The month of June is dedicated to Cuneo and its territory. This journey takes its shape among the settings of permanent collections of Palazzo Madama, putting special emphasis on works like the wooden choir loft and altar of the Staffarda abbey as well as great personalities like Emanuele Tapparelli d’Azeglio: the last representative of a family whose origins are in the province of Cuneo. He is a central figure in the history of the museum as director and patron of many important collections.
