Canaletto and Bellotto
Palazzo Bricherasio
from 14.03.2008 to 15.06.2008
With Bozena Anna Kowalczyk as curator, the exhibit narrates the artistic relationship between two great 18th century landscape artists, bringing up one of the most fascinating problems in the history of art from that period. The works of Canaletto and Bellotto are being shown together for the first time in order to allow the viewer to make immediate comparisons between the artists’ particular traits as well as their stylistic, technical, and composition achievements. Beginning with shared origins in landscape painting, the show lays open the similarities and differences between Canaletto and Bellotto through their interpretation of the same scenes, from composition to drawing out the landscape, from figures to their way of creating lightheartedness.
