The density and the artistic merit of the Stagione d’Opera (Opera Season) 2007-2008 at the Teatro Regio in Torino demonstrate the growing interest which the people of Piemonte, and not only, have for this fascinating genre where music and theater meet. The opening of the season has been entrusted to the timeless masterpiece by Giuseppe Verdi, Falstaff, staged by Pier Luigi Pizzi (director, set and costume designer), with the orchestra led by Maestro Noseda in his first opera as Musical Director, and performed by such outstanding voices as the baritone, Ruggero Raimondi. Among the other events scheduled, three performances by Moscow’s Bol’soj Theater Ballet (Le Corsaire, Spartacus, Giselle), a new production of Salomè by Richard Strauss – one hundred years after the first Italian performance of the opera which was, in fact, right here at the Regio in Torino under the direction of the composer – and the opera, Edgar, by Giacomo Puccini, in its first modern production, in its original version with all four acts.
